Description

A Falconer was invited to my photo club recently and brought 2 of the birds he works with. One was this Harris Hawk and the second was a falcon. This hawk is used at the military air base here in Trenton, Ontario, Canada to clear the area of birds prior to the aircraft landing and taking off. He's been working with this hawk for 6 years acquiring him as a little one. They are so much in sync with each other. He was telling us that when they are out and about in his jeep, the hawk sits untethered on the seat next to him - the headrest has been removed and he perches on it. When he notices the hawk perform certain movements, he knows that something has attracted the hawks attention outside. He rolls down the window and the hawk flies out to do his hawk-thing thing flies back into the jeep to his perch. Quite amazing. This amazing bird can reach speeds of up to 150 km/hour. Each bird is fitted with a telemetry device so that he can be tracked up to 10 km. away incase he decides to go for a joyfly.

Oh my! Thank you to everyone who has faved this photo. There are far too many for me to thank individually, but I really do appreciate every single one. THANK YOU!!!
